The wife of President Buhari, Aisha Buhari said that the incumbent administration was pirated by unknown men. Aisha Buhari, in her recent interview granted to the BBC Hausa, mentioned that the government of her husband has been pirated by some unknown cabals. Mrs Buhari said that she may not support the president re-election in 2019 if the president fails to reshuffle his ministers. President Buhari fired back by saying the first lady belongs in the kitchen.

Aisha Buhari did not give names, but some Nigerians suppose that among these cabals are Chief Abba Kyari and Mamman Daura, Buhari’s uncle, who allegedly stands behind many presidents’ decisions.

However, John Paden, the authorised biographer of President Buhari, in his last book gives insight how Chief Kyari appeared in the incumbent government. According to the biographer, the decision to appoint a chief of staff came to Buhari when the officials who had served under President Jonathan undermining Buhari’s efforts to reengage with the international community.

Paden opined that the speech of the Nigerian leader during his first visit to the USA was modifying really suggesting that the US government was aiding and abetting Boko Haram. The speech was written in a way that it sounded like “President Buhari was repeating the arguments of President Jonathan, not staking out a new position.”

The book reads in part: “In subsequent, private discussion with the author of the original speech, it was clear that sections 16 and 17 had not been part of the original speech and were inserted by the officials who had served under President Jonathan. Evidently, members of the old guard were intent on undermining Buhari’s efforts to reengage with the international community.

According to him, “Buhari needed a chief of staff who could monitor such matters and also help manage Buhari’s time so he was not so rushed as to make such missteps. On his return to Abuja, Buhari announced the appointment of Abba Kyari as chief of staff. Kyari is from Borno, with family ties in Bama (Borno state), and is a longtime friend and confidant of Buhari’s. Most observers agreed that Kyari was an excellent choice.”

Since the inauguration, the USA has been among the top visited countries by President Buhari. The Nigerian leader spent 28 days in the USA, 19 in the UK (including his vacation) and 9 days in France.
